William Paterson University of New Jersey is a public, residential institution that offers an outstanding and affordable education to a diverse student body of almost 11,000 through baccalaureate, masters and doctoral programs. Located in suburban northern New Jersey, the 370-acre campus is 20 miles from New York City, adjacent to 1,200 acres of woodlands and hiking trails, and three miles from the Great Falls National Historical Park in the city of Paterson. The University challenges students to high levels of intellectual and professional accomplishment and personal growth in preparation for careers, advanced studies, and productive citizenship. Faculty and staff use innovative approaches to research, learning, and student support to expand students' awareness of what they can accomplish. The University Core Curriculum provides students with a foundation in a broad range of disciplines and topics, including a required course in community and civic engagement before advancing to a choice of 52 undergraduate degrees offered by five colleges: Arts and Communication, Cotsakos College of Business, Education, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Health. The University is committed to programs that foster global responsibility and scientific inquiry. With strong programs in business, education, music and the arts, nursing, communication, and the sciences, students are well prepared for careers with major broadcasting, data processing, technology and health care firms that dominate northern New Jersey and to pursue post-graduate studies in law, medicine, the arts, business, and the social sciences and humanities. Its 410 full-time faculty members include 41 recipients of prestigious Fulbright Fellowships. Students have an opportunity to work with professors on research, internships, performances, and other creative work. Faculty are poets, writers, TV and radio broadcasters, scientists, entrepreneurs, historians, artists, musicians, and noted authors in their fields. Speaking more than 20 languages, they encourage international experiences with programs in China, the Netherlands, England, Wales, Spain, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Japan, India, and Kenya, among others.. The University fosters a supportive environment for faculty and student collaboration, particularly in research leading to presentations at regional, state, or national conferences or publication in scholarly journals. During April, the University celebrates research, scholarship, and creative expression through Explorations, a series of events including oral and poster presentations featuring more than 200 individual faculty and student presenters. Also, 150 students and faculty mentors from 30 colleges presented their research in oral and poster sessions at this years 11th annual Undergraduate Science Research Symposium. These events provide significant opportunities for students to engage with peers and faculty, discuss their research findings, and learn about the research activities and interests of others. We actively encourage experiential learning and practical opportunities for students. For the third time in six years, William Paterson's student-run FM radio station was named Best College Radio Station for colleges with 10,000 or more students in the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. The College of Education, a leader in urban education, was selected for the Woodrow Wilson New Jersey Teaching Fellowship Program to recruit top science and math graduates to teach in high-need schools. William Paterson has been named one of the top U.S.schools for future financial planners by Financial Planning Magazine. The University also is a founding member of the civic engagement organization New Jersey Campus Compact and is integrally involved in the community, including developing programming for Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park. The University was recently designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution by the US Department of Education.
