Westmont College is an undergraduate, residential, Christian, liberal arts community serving God's kingdom by cultivating thoughtful scholars, grateful servants and faithful leaders for global engagement with the academy, church and world.Westmont is widely considered one of a handful of best Christian colleges, known especially for its strong faculty and academic quality. What sets Westmont apart is its singular focus on the residential undergraduate liberal arts. Westmont offers no graduate instruction and relies almost exclusively on full-time faculty, which ensures that undergraduates at all levels will be taught by its top scholars. The liberal arts curriculum and the college's intimate size contribute to a vibrant interdisciplinary community. One sign of the interdisciplinary community is the high percentage of Westmont faculty who craft and lead semester-long study programs overseas. Between 60-70% of Westmont students complete a program of off-campus study, and the majority enroll in Westmont-led programs taught by Westmont faculty (East Asia, England, Europe, Istanbul, Uganda, Cairo, Mexico, Jerusalem, etc.). Another factor that distinguishes Westmont from most Christian colleges is its nondenominational character. The faculty and student body reflect a range of evangelical perspectives and churches, and the college is known for its spirit of inquiry rather than legalism. That breadth is evident in robust enrollments in the sciences, with several faculty who have been leaders in the national and international faith-science dialogues. Humanities programs explore contemporary literature and arts, not just traditional topics. Given the relatively compact size of the greater Santa Barbara area, Westmont has been building a vigorous community engagement endeavor, with a high number of student volunteer hours in the community, numerous community lectures and events, and a new social entrepreneurship program.
