Westminster College is an independent, coeducational liberal arts college that is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA). Since its founding in 1852, Westminster has been dedicated to the mission of helping men and women develop competencies, commitments, and characteristics which distinguish human beings at their best. The liberal arts tradition is the foundation of the curriculum continually designed to serve this mission in a rapidly changing world. The College's mission guides not only its overall operations, but also the curriculum and objectives within academic programs. Westminster offers a bachelor's degree program in 40 majors, 36 minors, 8 pre-professional programs, and graduate programs in education and licensed professional counseling. The College has begun recruiting students for a new program in nursing, with an emphasis on rural healthcare. The College's reputation in the local and national community is very strong and positive. The College is a top-tier liberal arts college and a national leader in graduation rate performance, according to U.S. News Best Colleges guide, and is tied for 4th among top-tier National Liberal Arts Colleges in graduation rate performance. In addition to having a strong retention rate (86% of first-year students returned for their sophomore year), Westminster is also honored as one of "The Best 378 Colleges" by The Princeton Review, and consistently is named to the President's Honor Roll for excellence in service learning. When students graduate from Westminster, their prospects are very positive. Over 96% of recent graduates are employed or in graduate school. These rankings and outcome measures reflect that Westminster is exceptional in educating students who graduate and find placements in industry/graduate school, and at rates that are higher than national averages.
