The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) is an 1890 Land Grant institution and is the second oldest public university in Arkansas. UAPB has a diverse student body and cutting edge academic programs delivered through four schools and University College. UAPB remains committed to the continuation and enhancement of its Center of Excellence (Aquaculture/Fisheries), and its areas of emphasis (science and mathematics, minority business development, education, and student development and leadership). The University offers premiere programs in aquaculture and regulatory science. It provides technical and outreach services related to minority business development, agriculture, human sciences, education, and student leadership development in fulfillment of the universitys role in society: to lead, to educate, and to serve. UAPB has more than 140 years of experience in solving problems related to matters of education, health, welfare, economic development, governmental affairs for the Pine Bluff community, Arkansas, and the nation. Though the main campus is in Pine Bluff, its reach is worldwide. With the addition of the Arkansas Research and Education Optical Network (ARE-ON), students can exchange with others anywhere in the world. In recent years UAPB has leveraged its national reputation in aquaculture fisheries to acquire more research dollars in related fields. UAPB now rank fourth in the State for the amount of research funding among institutions in the University of Arkansas System.Through its partnership with the National Science Foundation (NSF) and other funders, during the past decade UAPB has focused on growing its capacity to increase the number of minorities and women choosing Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) careers. UAPB is the lead institution for the Arkansas Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (ARK-LSAMP) and has operated the UAPB STEM Academy since 2003. UAPB has a legacy of being a student-focused, success-driven, and mission-based institution.
