UNCG has long held a reputation as one of North Carolina's best kept secrets, but the university is taking giant steps to get that secret out. A new wellness center and residence hall are expanding the border of the campus, construction is set to begin on a state-of- the-art facility for nursing students, and the community is currently celebrating the 125th anniversary of UNCG's first class of students. It's an exciting time to be a Spartan. UNCG is committed to student success. In addition to excellent academics, the university puts an emphasis on giving students hands-on experiences in their majors through internships, study abroad, partnerships with community organizations, and faculty-guided research. Undergraduates are mentored by supportive professors in smaller classroom settings where they gain the confidence and experience needed to excel after graduation. UNCG takes pride in its global focus. The affordable study abroad program has exchange partners in more than 30 countries, and many majors offer faculty-led trips as well. Students seeking a challenge in the Lloyd International Honors College benefit from a scholarship to support global travel, which is a requirement for program participants. UNCG seeks students looking to pursue academic challenges in an inclusive campus community. Application reviews focus on a student's entire academic record, beginning with a combination of overall cumulative GPA and standardized test scores. We also review other factors, such as the comprehensive high school record (including course selection and senior class schedule), awards, leadership potential, participation in activities, and the optional application essay.
