Syracuse University

Syracuse University is an international research university that provides students with an outstanding education built on teaching excellence, rigorous scholarship, global engagement, and collaborative research that drives discovery and advances knowledge. Comprising 11 academic schools and colleges, the University has a long legacy of excellence in the liberal arts, sciences, and professional disciplines that prepares students for the complex challenges and opportunities of a rapidly changing workplace and world. Syracuse University enrollment is about 20,000, and its student body is among the most diverse for an institution of its kind across multiple dimensions. Geographically, students represent all 50 states and more than 100 countries. The University has a long legacy of commitment to access and inclusion, and we believe that exposure to multiple perspectives, life experiences, backgrounds, and beliefs is an essential component of educational excellence. Global literacy is a major piece of this commitment, and we foster this both by offering a wide range of learning, research, and immersion opportunities around the world and by mindfully working to promote interaction and engagement among our richly diverse student body here on campus. Currently, about 19 percent of the student body is international, and nearly 45 percent of students participate in some type of study abroad experience. An early leader in advancing global study opportunities, we work to ensure that upon graduation, all students have the skills, experiences, and cultural knowledge necessary to live, work, and thrive in a deeply interconnected world. Syracuse operates its own centers in Beijing, Florence, Hong Kong, Istanbul, London, Madrid, Santiago (Chile), and Strasbourg (France) and partners with international groups to provide options in other countries as well. One-of-a-kind off-campus learning experiences are also available in major metropolitan hubs such as New York City, Washington D.C., Los Angeles, and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Syracuse University also has long been a national leader in veteran-related programs and services, and plans are in place to expand that legacy even further. The University today is home to such precedent-setting veterans' initiatives as the Entrepreneurship Bootcamp for Veterans with Disabilities and the Institute for Veterans and Military Families--the first university-based institute in the U.S. focused on addressing the critical social, economic, educational, and policy issues affecting veterans and their families. The University also continues to expand opportunities for students to engage in faculty-led research collaborations across disciplines, schools, and colleges. This emphasis on and investment in research is reflected in the University's recent elevation to the highest research classification (R1) in the Carnegie systems. Building on our longstanding strengths while strategically evolving in light of emerging needs and opportunities, Syracuse University continues to distinguish itself by offering substantive and multifaceted learning opportunities that prepare students to make a difference as they put their Syracuse education to work in a constantly changing world.
