Shippensburg University is a mid-size public institution in south-central Pennsylvania within 150 miles of Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, and Philadelphia, PA. Shippensburg offers bachelor's and master's, and doctoral degree programs in three colleges: arts and sciences, business, and education and human services. Shippensburg University's mission is to provide student learning and personal development through highly effective and innovative teaching, complemented by a wide variety of out-of-class experiences. Shippensburg University encourages and supports high-impact practices such as undergraduate student research, study abroad, internships, and service learning. Such educational opportunities are possible through the collective support and mentoring of students by faculty, staff, and administration as well as through partnerships, and arrangements with international universities and research facilities such as Chincoteague Bay Field Station, Wallops Island, VA. The university's annual Minds@Work Conference provides a forum for both undergraduate and graduate students to share their research, scholarship, and creative activities. The university also supports research during the summer through its Summer Undergraduate Research Experience program. The university also integrates meaningful community service with instruction to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility and strengthen community. Service learning and community engagement is supported through a Career and Community Engagement Center. It is also the focus of one of eleven Living-Learning Communities (LLC) offered through Housing and Residence Life. LLCs offer students the option of living with people who share the same academic or personal interests. The Honors Program has dedicated space in one of the newly constructed suite-style residence halls, Presidents Hall, which is also home to LLC for Honors Program students. Shippensburg University is committed to sustainability at all levels and students are integral to operating and maintaining a Campus Farm that provides fresh produce for campus dining services and community members in need. The university also has a strong commitment to the development of a common core of general skills and competencies among its undergraduates. Among its institutional strengths are nationally accredited programs in business, chemistry, criminal justice, communication/journalism, computer science, counseling, social work, and teacher education. The university has several programs unique to the region and to Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education including computer, software, and electrical engineering; entrepreneurship, international studies, and disability studies (minor). The John L. Grove College of Business places its students in internships through a robust and well-established business internship program. Finance students get hands-on experience in investment management in a state-of-the-art stock trading. Through the Investment Management Program course, these students manage a real-money portfolio that supports student scholarships. SU ranks among the top schools of its size for first-time test average pass rates on CPA exams (as reported by NASBA). The Pennsylvania Counseling Association has recognized Shippensburg's master-level counseling programs as the best in the state. Students graduating from our CACREP-accredited programs are well-prepared to pass the National Counseling Examination, 92% passing on the first time, and scoring high consistently on research and statistics, group counseling, ethics and professional orientation to counseling. The master-level graduate and post-baccalaureate programming focuses on the professional needs of the university's service region and in support of broader economic development activities in Pennsylvania.
