Our professors are leaders, thinkers and doers in their fields. In fact, 31 of our faculty have been named among the best in Virginia, placing us in the top tier of award-winning institutions statewide. Through their mentorship and their classroom experience, you'll be more than prepared for life after graduation. Our Coastal Virginia location offers many recreational options and is key to more than 5,600 annual practical experiences from which our students benefit. As a doctoral research institution, we understand education is more than facts, figures, and head knowledge. Options and opportunities are abundant through our extensive study abroad programs, internships and co-ops in every field imaginable to hundreds of volunteer and outreach initiatives. ODU is one of the largest providers of distance learning degree programs in the country. With ODUOnline, study from anywhere - a U.S. Navy ship deployed overseas or the comfort of your home. Entrepreneurism is built into our curriculum and we are innovative in our approach to education, service and career development. At ODU's Strome Entrepreneurial Center, students, faculty and staff collaborate to develop innovative and creative thinking to launch ideas and businesses. Through consultations, speakers, workshops and individual coaching, the Strome Entrepreneurial Center will provide you with the necessary tools and guidance to turn your passion into an enterprise. ODU's world-class researchers partner with business, industry, government and investment leaders to solve society's most pressing challenges. We are a national and global research leader and were awarded more than $70 million in total research expenditures (external and internal) in 2016. President John R. Broderick created ODU's Climate Change and Sea Level Rise Initiative in 2010, a multidisciplinary effort bringing in expertise from all academic colleges to examine the causes of rising sea levels and develop resiliency solutions. Today, we are recognized as a national leader in flooding resilience planning by the White House and U.S. State Department. Our Commonwealth Center for Recurrent Flooding Resiliency provides a multi-disciplinary collaborative approach to research, furthering planning and preparedness for coastal resilience. ODU produces the second largest percentage of science, technology, engineering, mathematics and health (STEM-H) graduates in Virginia. As STEM-H job opportunities grow, skills tied to those fields are vital to innovation and economic growth. Named a "Military Friendly School" by G.I. Jobs Magazine for the last 8 years, more than 26% of the Old Dominion student body has a direct connection with the U.S. military. Both Old Dominion's Army ROTC and Hampton Roads Naval ROTC units are ranked nationally, commissioning officers deployed to military operations around the world. Our Military Connection Center is committed to assisting veterans, including active duty service members, reservists, guardsmen and their families to successfully navigate the transition to academic life. On campus and online, at ODU, pair your talents with career-focused education. We are the place for innovators.
