Notre Dame College of Ohio

Notre Dame College was established in 1922. A Catholic institution in the tradition of the Sisters of Notre Dame, the College educates a diverse population in the liberal arts for personal, professional and global responsibility. A variety of clubs and activities enrich the educational experiences of the Colleges 2,120 students. The Campus Ministry program promotes the spiritual growth of the Notre Dame College community and facilitates community service, retreats and liturgy. Theatre programs promote talent in the performing arts and provide entertainment for the College community and the general public. Most of the countless on-campus events are free, and students may purchase tickets at reduced rates for off-campus programs such as performances of the world-famous Cleveland Orchestra, the Cleveland Opera, and road shows of Broadway productions in Clevelands Theatre District. Notre Dame is a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and competes in the American Mideast Conference. It fields 23 intercollegiate athletic teams, the most of any college in Ohio besides The Ohio State University. In July 2009, NDC announced that its membership application for NCAA Division II had been approved. Notre Dame spent the 2010-2011 academic year as a candidacy-year-two institution in the NCAA Division II membership process. The College is located on a beautiful 60-acre wooded campus in South Euclid, 25 minutes from downtown Cleveland and only five minutes from Legacy Village, Clevelands lifestyle retail center. The area combines the excitement and cultural wealth of a major urban and educational center with the relaxed atmosphere of a suburban setting. University Circle in Cleveland, a 500-acre complex containing an unusual blend of cultural, educational, medical, religious, and social service institutions, is easily accessible from the College. The College awards degrees in over 30 disciplines. Among its signature programs are a Bachelor of Arts in History/Political Science, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and a Master of Education. A student can also design his or her own major that leads to a B.A. or B.S. degree by combining two or three academic areas, such as graphic design, human resource management, and public relations. The Colleges innovative approach to online education includes a Master of Arts in Security Policy Studies. Teacher licensure is available in early childhood education, middle childhood education, adolescent/young adult education, and multi-age mild/moderate intervention specialist studies. The Associate in Arts degree is awarded at the completion of a two-year program in pastoral ministry and the Center for Pastoral Theology and Ministry also grants a two-year catechetical diploma. The Office of Professional Development offers course work for working adults on a variety of topics. It offers seminars and short, flexibly scheduled courses for professionals, along with certificate programs in athletic coaching, business intelligence, health care and homeland security. The Colleges Dwyer Learning Center is staffed by English faculty members who provide professional writing assistance to students free of charge. The tutoring room is staffed with graduate assistants and upper-class peer tutors for one-on-one study skills and subject specific assistance. Notre Dames Academic Support Center for Students with Learning Differences was designed to support students with disabilities such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, dyslexia, Aspergers Syndrome, and SLD. Among its services, the ASC provides professional tutoring, advising, lessons on adaptive equipment, and career services. The College faculty has 62 full-time members and is augmented by highly qualified instructors in special areas. Faculty members hold advanced degrees from more than 30 universities in the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
