New College of Florida

New College of Florida is the public honors college for the state of Florida and a national leader in the liberal arts and sciences. Located on a 110-acre campus, directly on the Sarasota Bay, this small, primarily undergraduate, liberal arts college attracts highly motivated, academically talented students from throughout the United States, as well as 22 foreign countries. Founded in 1960, New College features a 10:1 student-to-faculty ratio consisting of approximately 875 students and 87 full-time faculty members and emphasizes in-depth undergraduate research and personalized learning. In addition to standard courses, students are encouraged to participate in yearly independent study projects, tutorials (classes designed by students), and a senior project prior to graduation. Year after year, New College's faculty and students garner top prizes and awards. Because of its small class sizes, its emphasis on student engagement, graduate school success rate, and relatively inexpensive cost, New College is often cited by publications including The Princeton Review, Fiske Guide to Colleges and Kiplinger, as a best buy among American colleges. New College is a member of the Consortium of Colleges on the Creative Coast, a network of colleges and universities that offers benefits such as a cross-registration program.
