Meredith College

126 years, 2,000 students, 22,000 graduates, all going strong. Chartered in 1891, Meredith College opened with just over 200 women. Today, Meredith is one of the nations largest independent private womens colleges. Our student body has grown to nearly 2,000 and includes men at the graduate level in business, education, and nutrition; post-baccalaureate certificates in pre-health and business; a paralegal program, and more. A Meredith education is highly personalized. By getting to know our students as individuals, we are able to help them develop a solid plan that acknowledges - and builds on - their strengths. We call this personal approach to our students education StrongPoints, an innovative advising and personal coaching model that is the defining element of the Meredith educational experience. Students work with trained faculty/staff advisers to identify their strengths, and then examine over the course of four years how those strengths can shape their academic choices, experiential involvement, financial plans, and career options. Meredith offers more than 80 undergraduate and 16 coeducational graduate and certificate programs. We are one of only two womens colleges in the world that are accredited by AACSB International, and we hold program accreditation in education, social work, nutrition, music, and interior design. Rigorous academics are enhanced through experiential learning opportunities including internships, community-based learning, study abroad, and undergraduate research. Merediths ideal location offers a beautiful, historic campus with access to internships and job opportunities in the capital city of Raleigh and nearby Research Triangle Park (RTP). Internship coordinators in the career center and academic departments work together to find the right internship placements for students, many of whom complete multiple internships. On campus, students benefit from the Meredith Autism Program, which provides students with one of the only hands-on clinical courses of its kind in the country. Other unique on-campus learning opportunities are found in the Science and Mathematics Building, which includes 13 dedicated research labs that support ongoing student and faculty research; Ellen Brewer House, a five star childcare center; and the Human Performance Lab. Students work closely with professors, collaborating with faculty on approximately 125 research projects annually. Many students present their research at regional and national conferences, often presenting alongside graduate-level students. Nearly a third of Meredith students study abroad - in the last five years theyve studied in 31 different countries, including our study abroad location in Sansepolcro, Italy. The Avenging Angels compete in eight NCAA Division III sports: basketball, cross country, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, track & field, and volleyball. A member of the USA South Athletic Conference since 2007, Meredith has claimed three tournament titles in lacrosse and one in soccer and tennis; regular season championships in soccer and one in volleyball and lacrosse; and three cross country championships.Meredith has been educating strong, confident women for 125 years. Among our alumnae are a retired N.C. Supreme Court Chief Justice; the first woman and African-American officer to hold command roles in the Chaplain Corps of the U.S. Navy; the first woman to hold a leadership position in the N.C. House and Senate; the first female U.S. Attorney in North Carolina; a Tony Award winner; numerous teachers of the year; and Vice Presidents of major corporations. Our graduates go on to use their intellect and abilities to make a positive impact on the world - over the past three years, 96% are employed or pursuing graduate study within a few short months of graduation. At 125 years and counting, Meredith College is still going strong.
