Marymount Manhattan College

Marymount Manhattan College is a private, four-year, co-educational, nonsectarian college offering outstanding programs in liberal arts and sciences, business, communication and media arts, and the performing arts. The faculty-to-student ratio is 11:1, enabling students to engage in scholarly dialogue in class and to work closely with esteemed faculty on research projects, independent studies, and internship opportunities. Located on Manhattan's Upper East Side of New York City, the College's co-educational student population is drawn from across the country and around the globe.The mission of the College is to educate a socially and economically diverse student body by fostering intellectual achievement and personal growth and by providing opportunities for career development. Inherent in this mission is the intent to develop an awareness of social, political, cultural, and ethical issues in the belief that this awareness will lead to concern for, participation in, and improvement of society.The College offers a variety of majors and minors in the liberal arts, including communications and media arts, business and the arts and sciences, including art and art history, English and world literatures, politics and human rights, and speech language pathology. The division of communication and media arts, with strengths in digital journalism, public relations and strategic communication, and digital media and video production takes advantage of the many media outlets in New York City for its internships, including Saturday Night Live, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Dr. Oz Show, and more. Other internship opportunities for students have included the United Nations, Christies, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Sesame Workshop, NBC Universal, CBS News, The Clinton Foundation, Chanel, and the TriBeCa Film Festival. The Colleges programs in the performing arts are renowned and highly competitive. The theatre arts program offers specializations in acting, design, directing, musical theatre, performance, producing, and writing for the stage. The BFA Dance program offers concentrations in ballet, choreography, and jazz, while the BA Dance program offers body, science, and motion, dance studies, dance and media, and teaching dance, among many others.Notable Marymount Manhattan graduates include the late Geraldine Ferraro, first female vice presidential candidate representing a major America political party; Justice Sallie Manzanet-Daniels, the first Latina justice in the history of New York State to serve on the First Department, Appellate Division Court; Adele de Cruz, who, along with a colleague, invented the laser process for restoring the great centuries old art masterpieces; Lisa Perry, internationally famous clothing designer; and Annaleigh Ashford, Tony award winning Broadway performer. The College has two residence halls including the 55th Street Residence Hall in mid-town and Cooper Square in the iconic East Village of Manhattan. The Cooper Square residence hall, which opened in summer 2015, is a quick subway ride to the main campus and set among cafes, theatres, restaurants, shopping, and rich cultural attractions. Theres no better place for students than this vibrant downtown neighborhood.The College offers nearly 40 student organizations.
