La Salle University, a comprehensive Catholic university in the tradition of the Christian Brothers of St. John Baptist de La Salle, was founded in 1863 and is located on a 133-acre beautifully landscaped campus--a true urban oasis--in a historic Philadelphia neighborhood. The University is known for excellence in teaching and scholarship, and has produced significant numbers of student and faculty Fulbright scholars over its history. La Salle embraces deep respect for each individual, a belief that intellectual and spiritual development happen in tandem, a passion for creative teaching and learning, and a conviction that education must drive personal growth, professional advancement and service to others. Our students contribute 50,000+ hours of service annually to distressed communities globally. One of the University's hallmarks is a strong sense of authentic community, enhanced by mentoring relationships, an average class size of just 22 students, unrelenting focus on student success and service to students, and the Christian Brothers themselves. The University is comprised of three schools: Business, Nursing and Health Sciences, and Arts and Sciences. Over 50 undergraduate degree programs, 26 master's programs and three doctoral programs are currently offered. In the last two years, La Salle has been recognized for excellence and value by U.S. News and World Report, the Economist, Money magazine, Brookings Institute and Forbes. La Salle offers 25 Division I varsity sports; an honors program recognized as a national model; over 100 student organizations; an integrated science, business and technology curriculum; the Philadelphia region's only four-year BS/MBA; one of the few university-owned and operated art museums; the oldest nurse-led community nursing center in the nation; and the La Salle Autism and Developmental Disabilities Education Resources (LADDER) Center.
