Kansas Wesleyan University, a liberal arts institution in Salina, KS, founded in 1886, maintains a covenant relationship with the United Methodist Church and is supported by the Great Plains Conference. The University welcomes and supports students of all faiths and has the second highest percentage of Hispanic students (11.1%) of the 36 Kansas colleges and universities, as well as students from 20 states and 10 foreign countries.Kansas Wesleyan is divided into six academic divisions offering unique and innovative undergraduate majors and a Master of Business Administration. Students receive individualized attention and opportunities for participation with a 14:1 average student-to-teacher ratio. The redesigned Liberal Studies program is comprised of four categories designed to challenge and invigorate students: Personal Awareness, Human Expression, Community and World Exploration, and Natural World Stewardship.KWU offers the only Emergency Management bachelors degree in Kansas; it was ranked 8th by Emergency Management Program Guide of the 20 Top Emergency Management Bachelor's Degree Programs Under $23,000 Average Net 2014.The KWU Psychological Services program was named by Best Psychology Degrees among the nation's "30 Great Small Colleges for a Counseling Degree (Bachelor's)" and named by Best Counseling Degrees as one of the "Top 25 Small Colleges for a Counseling Degree." KWU students have been accepted at top research universities, participated in The Washington Center's internship program in the nation's capital, and been accepted to attend graduate, doctoral, and professional programs such as medical and veterinary schools.Several unique partnerships (such as the 3+3 ministry degree program with Saint Paul School of Ministry and the 3+2 in Engineering degree with Washington University in Saint Louis, MO) give students the opportunity to obtain their undergraduate degree at KWU and complete their graduate degree at a partner institution in a condensed schedule.KWU was again named a College of Distinction, Kansas College of Distinction and Christian College of Distinction for 2015-16, for excelling in four areas: engaged students, great teaching, vibrant communities, and successful outcomes.Kansas Wesleyan combines all of its academic study-away courses with intentional service-learning experiences and travel, in the U.S. or internationally, through The Center for Global Service Learning. The institution guarantees qualified students one such course, known as The Wesleyan Journey, at no additional cost within the U.S. or to Costa Rica. Students volunteer for many local organizations and develop a passion for community service through student-led service initiatives such as Project HUNT, Project HERO and CampusServe.Students can pursue their academic interests and their passions at KWU where the Power of AND allows them to be involved in many different interests and activities. In addition to internships, built into the curriculum, students learn leadership and lifelong skills in a variety of positions with the Student Government Association, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Athlete Advisory Committee, Resident Life, Campus Ministries, Alpha Chi and many other clubs and organizations.Salina, the sixth largest city in Kansas, is a major arts and cultural community, welcoming KWU students to perform with the Salina Symphony, participate in Salina Community Theatre, and engage in visual arts. Students in all majors perform in orchestra, band, choir, music theatre, and marching band. The university has a nationally award-winning debate team, an on-campus television studio and a student-run radio station that broadcasts around the world. KWU has a tradition of championship athletics with 61 KCAC championships in the past ten years and has just completed a $7.5 million multi-use sports complex, which features two lighted fields and a championship-level eight-lane track.
