Hofstra University, located just 25 miles east of New York City, is a dynamic private university where more than 11,000 students choose from approximately 160 undergraduate and 165 graduate programs of study, including liberal arts and sciences, business, communication, engineering and applied science, education, nursing and physician assistant studies, health professions and human services, medicine, and law. More than 100 dual degree programs allow our students to complete an undergraduate and a graduate degree in less time than if each degree was pursued separately. Hofstra is the only university ever chosen to host U.S. presidential debates in three consecutive election cycles (2008, 2012 and 2016) and is home to the Peter S. Kalikow School of Government, Public Policy and International Affairs and the Center for the Study of the American Presidency. At Hofstra, 93 percent of full-time faculty members hold the highest degree in their fields, and many have been recognized with Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships, National Science Foundation and National Endowment for the Humanities awards, and Emmy Awards. We offer small classes (student-faculty ratio of 14-to-1 and an average undergraduate class size of 21) taught by professors, not graduate assistants. At Hofstra, each student is assigned two academic advisors (a student affairs advisor and a professor in their major) to facilitate progress and provide guidance from the first year through graduation and beyond. With an emphasis on experiential and hands-on learning, we provide innovative technology and equipment on campus; access to internships and co-ops -- including an engineering co-op -- in nearby New York City; study abroad programs; and fellowships and field research designed to develop students' interests and abilities. Hofstra offers educational, co-curricular and cultural programs and initiatives that foster an awareness of local, national and global issues, and encourages students to be active citizens within the university and beyond our campus. In addition, Hofstra offers a dual degree program with Dongbei University of Finance and Economics (DUFE) in global business or global finance and economics. Classes are taught by Zarb and DUFE faculty at Hofstra with a six-week summer internship in China. Hofstra's 244-acre suburban campus, which is a nationally recognized arboretum, has traditional ivy-covered buildings as well as modern learning spaces, all surrounded by green quads with thousands of blooming tulips every spring. Our 116 buildings are home to a cutting-edge converged newsroom and multimedia classroom; an academic trading room with 34 Bloomberg professional terminals; six theaters, including the Hofstra Shakespearean Globe Stage,; state-of-the-art cell and tissue engineering, robotics, and big data labs; a rooftop observatory; and WRHU Radio Hofstra University, our top-ranked and award-winning student-run station. The Hofstra libraries provide 24/7 online access. Hofstra is home to 200 clubs and organizations, including 27 local and national sororities and fraternities; 35 residence halls; 18 eateries; 17 NCAA Division I sports; an Olympic-sized swimming pool; and ultramodern athletic and fitness facilities. Hofstra fosters a community that is committed to sustainable practices. Through its Office of Sustainability, Sustainability Studies degree programs, and research efforts, Hofstra plays an important role as a steward of the environment. Students enjoy drinking-water refill stations across campus, manage their own garden, and work with local organizations during student move-out at the end of each semester to donate thousands of pounds of food. At Hofstra, students live, study and play on a traditional campus and are just a quick train ride away from New York City and all of its cultural, recreational and professional opportunities.
