The mission of Georgetown College is to prepare students to engage in their life pursuits with thoughtfulness and skill by providing an exceptional educational experience in a vibrant Christian community. Georgetown distinguishes itself from many other small colleges across the nation by offering the strong combination of rigorous and respected academic programs in the liberal arts and sciences and professional preparation; a wealth of opportunities for extracurricular leadership and involvement; and a strong commitment to Christian values and principles. While many schools focus on one or two of these characteristics, institutions that combine all three at high levels are less common. Placing them side by side, Georgetown provides a special framework for outstanding teaching and mentoring that fosters intellectual, social, and spiritual growth. Evidence for this includes the 34 Georgetown alumni selected for Fulbright teaching grants since 1988 (three this year), unusual success in graduate and professional schools; experience in a wealth of foreign and domestic internships and study opportunities; and the outcomes of student competition in business, social sciences, athletics (including a highly successful new womens Lacrosse program), and theology.
