The Fashion Institute of Technology, a part of the State University of New York, has been a leader in career education in art, design, business, and technology for 70 years. At FIT, students, scholars, and teachers cross traditional boundaries to stimulate innovation, partner with creative industries worldwide, and develop visionary design and business solutions. With a curriculum that provides its nearly 10,000 students with a singular blend of hands-on, practical experience, classroom study, and a firm grounding in the liberal arts, FIT offers a wide range of outstanding programs that are affordable and relevant to todays rapidly changing industries. FITs unique brand of education results in an outstanding job placement rate; for graduates with bachelors degrees, the rate is 90%, based on an 18% response rate to a 2013 survey. Graduates become business pacesetters and creative icons. Successful alumni give back to FIT through guest lectures, classroom mentoring, and curriculum advisement. Each program has produced outstanding alumni: fashion designers such as Calvin Klein, Michael Kors, Norma Kamali, and Nanette Lepore; creative director of Marie Claire magazine Nina Garcia; renowned interior designer Tony Chi; Edward Menicheschi, chief marketing officer and president, Conde Nast Media Group; and cosmetics entrepreneur Leslie Blodgett, executive chairman of Bare Escentuals. The colleges urban campus includes many industry-specific facilities, including specialized computer labs, a toy design lab, textile testing lab, Stoll computerized knitting lab, and the Annette Green Fragrance Foundation Studio, the only professional-level fragrance lab on a U.S. college campus. Four residence halls house 2,300 students. A state-of-the-art fitness center and athletics facilities provide areas for recreation, sports, and training. The colleges special facilities include The Museum at FIT, the only museum in New York City dedicated to fashion; it holds one of the worlds most important collections of costume and textiles, and serves as a source of research and inspiration for students, scholars, and industry. FIT is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the National Association of Schools of Art and Design, and the Council for Interior Design.
