California University of Pennsylvania is distinguished by its focus on applied education, which allows its 8,200 students to begin building a resume even before they graduate. Nearly all of Cal Us 130 undergraduate majors and concentrations, as well as its 35 graduate and professional programs, build on a solid academic foundation by adding hands-on activities, fieldwork, clinical practice, student teaching or meaningful research. Founded in 1852, Cal U is located on the banks of the Monongahela River in rural southwestern Pennsylvania, about 35 miles from Pittsburgh. The main campus houses academic buildings, performance spaces, a fitness center, dining facilities and six suite-style residence halls that are heated and cooled with sustainable geothermal energy.
