Founded in 1920, the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM) is one of eight independent music conservatories in the country and is known for superior orchestral, chamber, composition and opera music programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The vision for CIM is to be the center for the education of the complete musician of the 21st century. The mission of the Cleveland Institute of Music is to cultivate new generations of young musicians through an immersive and creative educational process, guiding the most musically talented individuals as rapidly as possible towards fulfilling careers that engage diverse and global audiences, stimulating the understanding and love of music throughout the world. The Cleveland Institute of Music provides exceptionally talented students from around the world an outstanding, thoroughly professional education in the art of music performance and related musical disciplines. Our world-renowned faculty, which includes principals of The Cleveland Orchestra, are dedicated to mentoring students towards successful performing and professional careers in the musical arts. Cleveland Institute of Music faculty maintain active performing and teaching lives as soloists, ensemble performers, participants in festivals and composers of new repertoire. Cleveland Institute of Music alumni go on to successful performance and academic careers; working with many of the worlds most acclaimed organizations including The Cleveland Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Metropolitan Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Beginning in their first year at the Cleveland Institute of Music, students participate in multiple opportunities to engage an audience. As a member of our orchestra students perform in CIMs Kulas Hall and on the stage of Severance Hall, home of the Cleveland Orchestra. Through our Community Outreach Program, students perform as soloists or members of an ensemble in local community venues, museums and classrooms engaging audiences that range from a handful to hundreds. Cleveland Institute of Music embraces the legacy of the past and promotes the continuing evolution of music within a supportive and nurturing environment. CIM also provides rigorous training in a Young Artist Program for gifted pre-college musicians in addition to broad offerings to music students of all ages through the Institutes Preparatory and Continuing Education Division, serving as a resource for the community with training for individuals of all ages and abilities.
