The Citadel

The Citadel is a landmark in Charleston, South Carolina, offering a classic military college education for young men and women profoundly focused on leadership development and academic distinction and boasts one of the highest four-year graduation rates in the state. Founded in 1842, The Citadel averages 2,300 undergraduates from more than 40 states and 12 countries who comprise the South Carolina Corps of Cadets. The Corps is nationally recognized for civic service, earning the elite Carnegie Community Engagement Classification for providing more than 7,500 hours of volunteer service annually to more than 36 organizations. About a third of each graduating class commission as officers in every branch of U.S. military service. The world renown Citadel Regimental Band and Pipes is the only military college band to have ever been invited to perform in The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, appearing for the third time in 2015. The Citadel Graduate College, founded in 1966, is a civilian evening program that offers 25 graduate degrees with 41 concentration options, 23 graduate certificate programs and 8 evening undergraduate programs. The Citadel is divided into five academic schools: Tommy and Victoria Baker School of Business, The Zucker Family School of Education, Engineering, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Science and Mathematics. There are almost 200 fulltime professors at the college who are sought after as global thought-leaders, researchers and media contributors. As an institution that understands and appreciates Americas veterans, The Citadel provides a familiar atmosphere with a wide array of support services for veterans transitioning back into civilian life who want to advance or complete their education.
