Central Michigan University

Central Michigan University is one of the nation's 100 largest public universities, with 20,000 students on its Mount Pleasant campus and another 7,000 enrolled online and at more than 60 locations across the U.S., Canada and Mexico, including 16 centers and sites across the state of Michigan. CMU offers more than 200 academic programs at the undergraduate, master's, specialist and doctoral levels, including nationally recognized programs in neuroscience, engineering, psychology, entrepreneurship, fashion merchandising and design, professional sales, journalism, music, audiology, teacher education, and physician assistant education. CMUs unique offerings include Michigan's first program in fermentation science and a new program that is one of only two in the nation that trains deafblind interveners. CMU, a leader in Great Lakes research, will soon begin administering classes and conducting research in its new $95 million Biosciences Building. The building is one of 12 new academic and residential buildings built on CMU's campus in the last 10 years. CMUs impact and influence extend far beyond its main campus into the state, nation and world. The CMU Volunteer Center maintains a database of more than 4,000 students who take advantage of numerous opportunities to help others, locally, nationally and around the world through the Alternative Break program, which is ranked third in the nation. CMU has been nationally recognized for its Leadership Institute, which provides students with more leadership programming and leadership scholarships than any other university in the state. Its award-winning Honors Program administers the prestigious full-ride Centralis Scholarship Program and oversees approximately 200 faculty-mentored honors undergraduate research projects annually. Four CMU professors have been named Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching Michigan Professor of the Year, more than in any other Michigan school. Since 2009, five CMU professors have been named Fulbright Scholars, teaching and conducting research throughout the world. Over the past two decades, six CMU students have accepted a Fulbright and three have received the nationally competitive Fulbright Study/Research grant. CMU's academic residential halls enhance learning and community in business, education and human services, health professions, science and technology, music, honors, and leadership and public service. CMU is the nation's foremost university authorizer of charter schools with 62 schools educating more than 30,000 students in grades K-12.
